How do you know if efudex has worked?
The redness, crusting, and peeling you see are signs that EFUDIX® is working to eliminate the abnormal cells.
While you may find this stage of treatment to be unattractive and somewhat uncomfortable, it is important that you DO NOT STOP THERAPY without first obtaining your doctor’s approval..
How long does it take to heal from efudex?
Continue using Efudix for as long as your doctor has told you to. Continue treatment up until the ulceration stage, usually 3 to 4 weeks. The healing process is usually complete 1 to 2 months after the end of treatment.
Does efudex affect normal skin?
The medication destroys sun damaged skin cells, but can also damage normal skin it comes into contact with, or cause skin irritation.
How do you relieve efudex treatment?
The day after your last Efudex application, begin moisturizing all treated areas with either Vaseline or Aquaphor Healing Ointment (over the counter). Apply frequently every day to keep skin soft. The treated area can be pink for several months and is more susceptible to getting sun burned.
Do you rub Efudix cream in?
Wash with water and mild soap in the shower and do not rub the area. Patting to wash and patting to dry is preferred. The ten minutes following a shower or washing are key. The skin tightens and throbs much more so during healing than during treatment as it craves the Efudex.
When should I stop using Efudix?
Stop efudix if you experience a severe reaction (shortness of breath; swelling of your lips, face, or tongue; hives). Contact us if you have any problems during treatment. Any lesions that fail to resolve with efudix treatment should be re-examined.
